Olivier Messiaen's Vingt Regards sur L'Enfant-Jesus is a collection of 20 short pieces contemplating baby Jesus in a kaleidoscope of radiant sounds and colors, ranging from tender sweetness to brutality to awesome mystery. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a complete performance of a monumental 20th century work in advance of its performance in New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art by one of the few artists performing this great work.
On Thursday, December 6, 7:00 PM, Timothy Benson, organist at Saint Paul's, will explore the life and music of Olivier Messiaen beginning with a performance of his first organ work, the stirring Le Banquet Celeste, written when the composer was only eighteen. Entry to this event is free with a ticket purchase to Christopher Taylor's December 8th performance.
